So I have decided to put off my 'why preach' blog for another week. But I did want to pass on some encouragement that I have received recently. Today, out of my own sense of pride and entitlement, I wrote something to a friend that was spiteful about a larger group of friends. I also am trying to finish up War of Words that has been on my reading list forever. It was amazing how the Lord used that book in my heart at that moment. I wrote back and apologized to my friend, but I realized how much my words reveal my heart. I know that but I really do not know that.
I highly recommend this book War of Words. It has been water to my soul and reorients my heart to see Jesus and want him rather than my own selfish dreams. Here is a quote for anyone who wants to taste a bit of its goodness:
"When we complain about the problems and pressures in our lives, we are essentially grumbling in the face of God. We are complaining that we have been chosen by his love and grace, and that he is putting us in situations designed to make us his holy people! These relationships and circumstances, these problems and trials, and these times of grief and suffering come from his hand. They are tokens of God's wonderful grace, given to deliver us from the power of remaining sin! Behind the circumstances is a God of love who is relentlessly at work to make us holy." Paul David Tripp
